Maker Faire!

Oh, I love this event! My daughter and I watched two hours of presentations they had yesterday, and will probably watch more today! Make sure you visit makerfaire at 12;30 today for
“Projects and Geek Parenting”
how to raise your kids as makers instead of consumers!

How wonderful is that?

Tori will set up a chess table at the Snocap Monday night. Come by and see some of her moves!
10% of all proceeds will go to Smartkids.sc, and all of those proceeds go to helping kids in North Augusta and Merriwether.

Fundraiser at snowcap drive in tonight!

Stop on by for dinner. Part of the proceeds will go to Smartkids. and ALL of our proceeds get to the schools and/or students.

Tonight is the SmartKids.sc “Fun-raiser” at Snocap!

Go eat at the snocap tonight (Everyl Monday night this month) and Smartkids.sc gets a percentage of the proceeds! Also, some of us will be there, so you can meet us and ask questions.

This is a sobering message for the US:

We need to make education A PRIORITY!

State of Education

Playing Chess is good for your brain.

Tori Whatley is going to Texas to represent South Carolina in a Chess match next week (July 24th)
Tori also happens to be from North Augusta!

I happened to meet them if front of a store this weekend. they were promoting Chess, and raising funds for her trip.
I find it disheartening that Tori’s accomplishment is not better known.. A champion from North Augusta should be noticed!!

Congratulations Tori, and good luck!

To contribute to Whatley’s travel and lodging expenses for the tournament, you may send a check payable to: Merriwether Mavericks Scholastic Chess Club c/o Regions Bank, 432 West Ave., North Augusta, SC 29841. Contact David Whatley at (803) 442-9060 or whatleydavid@bellsouth.net

How about that! Very interesting, I’m going to have to put watching out for this activity next year! Kudos to the White house for championing science!

Jack-o-lantern Jubilee a success

Special thanks to Michelle from the LIONS club for including us in their booth. We raised 119 dollars! All of which will go to teachers in the area.

It was a wonderful day, with perfect weather. Unfortunately, I was so busy I did not get any pictures! If anyone else has any, I would like one…

THANKS Michelle! Looking forward to working with you next year.
