FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
- What is this website for?
Smartkids.sc has two primary purposes, and one secondary purpose. The first is to enable local people in the Aiken area to help local schools and their teachers excel in teaching our children. Teachers can ask for help, and people of the community can offer their assistance by way of volunteering or donating money to a project. We will be documenting the various projects on the blog on a regular basis.
The other purpose is to sponsor academic contests with real prizes for the student participants. We want to see academic excellence be recognized as much as athletic excellence.
The secondary purpose is to allow local Parents and community to talk about schools and education on the forum. Sometimes in this fast paced world we don’t get to “get out much” and the forum will allow you to talk “school” with other people. The forum is moderated and will only allow positive, enriching conversation.
- I’m a teacher, how do I ask for help or funding?
Its simple! There is a small form at “Request Help” button on the front page. That form will ask you four questions: A description of your request, Your name and email, the cost of the project you want funded (if any), and the date your request expires. Since this is a local web site, We will contact you to get the details and background of your request. Then together, we can post it and make it public!
- I’m a parent/community member. How do I help a local school/teacher?
This is simple also! just go to page that lists all the open projects, and choose one to donate to!
When you click on the title, it will show you the details of the project, with a “donate” button at the bottom of the page. Click on the donate button, and use your credit card or paypal account to donate to the cause. We will immediately use your funds to purchase the requested items, and donate them to the teacher. We will also post a story of the successful project on the blog. (You can choose whether you want to publicly take credit or not)
- Isn’t there another national site that allows you to donate to teachers?
Yes, there is, and it is a very good site. But they don’t have the local personable connection. This site serves only North Augusta and Southern Edgefield county, and we have no paid employees.
- Are you a 501(c)(3) Tax deductible Charity?
Yes, We are.
